Stacked Boxes

Stacked BoxesIf you’re moving, we know it can be a stressful time for you, your pets, and your loved ones. Instead of rifling through boxes looking for things you’ll need, trying to frantically unpack, pack yourself a first night box.

What is a first night box?

It sounds exactly like what it is! It’s a box full of things you’ll need on your first night in your new home. You don’t want to be caught unprepared, looking for an opened corner store or otherwise to buy some toilet paper. You want to make sure your first night box is clearly labeled and loaded last — maybe even riding up front with you! Make sure you don’t forget it or bury it.

What should I put in my first night box?

Here are some ideas. You may want to put some cleaning items in your box if you plan on cleaning before you unpack.

Pack some snacks in case you get hungry on the trip or you’re hungry when you get there. Maybe even pack a few disposable cups, plates, and napkins so if you want to make a quick meal out of what you packed, you don’t have to dig out the silverware and dinner plates.

Make sure to pack hygiene necessities like soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper, clean bed sheets (or sleeping bags), towels, a new shower curtain, your hair brush, any razors you may need.

Also make sure to pack any prescription medications you may need especially if they’re time sensitive.

Pack bandages and first aid items just in case there’s a bump or a cut on the way.

If you have pets, you may want to pack their favorite toys, carriers, blankets that are familiar to them, their bed, food, and other items. Your first night box can end up being a big box, but an important one.
